It was probably the success of Opus V that consecrated Arcangelo Corelli as the supreme model for writing for the violin. ARTS MUSIC presents this remarkable collection of twelve sonatas for violin and basso in multichannel sound.

The soloist of this remarkable recording is Stefano Montanari who is also the first violin leader of the Accademia Bizantina since 1995. During his education as soloist and musician of chamber music he also focused on the study of performance techniques on period instruments. Today, Montanari works with the most important European ensembles of early and baroque music, especially with Christopher Rousset and the group “Les Talens Lyriques”. Furthermore he works as a teacher of baroque violin at the International Academy of Music in Milan.

"All together he (Montanari) offers a colorful, virtouse Corelli on a high technical level and with self-confident but truely differentiated tempos"

FonoForum - February 2006

"Technically and musically perfect...interpretation fascinating and full of verve...superlative technique of Montanari and superb, rich accompaniment of Dantone and of the members of that amazing ensemble Accademia Bizantina"

MUSICA -  February 2006

"Soloist Stefano Montanari completely follows the rudiments of chamber music always - also in the virtuose movements - keeping his ensemble in mind. In this way Corellis’s music can develop simultaneosly, just like it is actually planned"

Crescendo - 9 February 2006

"A performance that satisfies both the senses and the spirit, the art of the violin in his richest possibility and an extraordinary feeling for embellishments...Stefano Montanari finds an audacious way to perform Corelli’s op.5 with Ottavio Dantone and the partners of Accademia Bizantina....A wonderful version that fully exploits the universe of his wide artistic choices"

Diapason - February 2006

"...The playing is very good - graceful and lively without bizarre tempos or any other shocking effects"

American Record Guide - November 2006

"Excellent! Very good interpretation of the violin parts from Montanari"

STEREO - 8 November 2006

"This interpretation is the best I know, and certainly the most dramatic and exciting. I therefore strongly recommend this set"

"...this outstanding achievement must be ranked among the top period-instrument performances of these works ..."
