The Album for the Youth is a collection of pieces that Robert Schumann published in 1848 under the title Christmas Album. The origin of the work is closely linked to the composer’s family life and the deep love he felt for his children. In writing these pieces Schumann has tried to enter the imagination of a child and see the world through the eyes ansd innocence of childhood. This results in an approach that is very tender but at the same time sldo disoassionate. The compositions make use of a remarkable variety of musical structures and styles. This is the fourth release by the excellent pianist Alessandra Ammara presented by the ARTS Music label.
"As with her [Ammara’s] other new Schumann disc (AB 7755), this one gives us a first-rate view of these simple, but not simplistic pieces [for children]. I cannot think ofa recording I would recommend before this one."
