The ballet "Harnasie" - thematically based on the life of Polish mountain farmers - is probably the best known work of the greatest Polish composer after Chopin: Karol Szymanowski. Also the 4th Sinfonia Concertante refers to Polish folk rhythms and melodies in the vigorous oberek in the third movement. This CD Accord album should be a huge success, mostly thanks to the brilliant interpretation by Piotr Paleczny and the fantastic National Philharmonic under Kord. Szymanowski’s music simply glitters here with tone colour, expression and emotion. [Studio 7/98, M. Kominek]
