A monumental vocal-instrumental work written in 1996, based on the Old Testament texts and performed by the leading Polish artists. "The Seven Gates of Jerusalem" are a kind of religious treatise, a tribute paid to God by Penderecki - a former musical revolutionary and a great romantic today. The work, commisioned by the Jerusalem authorities to commemorate the third milennium of the holy city, was first performed under Lorin Maazel on 9 January 1997. This album is a world phonographic premiere of the work which has "a perfect dramatic structure"... [Studio 6/98, K. Baculewski]
