This album offers the last previously unissued 78 rpm recordings by the Kolisch Quartet. Rudolf Kolisch always struggled against the tradition of a "beautiful sound" in common violin playing. The interpretations by the Kolisch Quartet are characterized by a rare clarity of musical structures as well as by an expressive sound.
"As always, these productions contain an excellent booklet. For the connoisseur interested in how the classical and romantic repertoire were received, it is fascinating to listen with the "ears" of the Schoenberg school. One can then conclude that the new avant garde in no way rejected romantic flourish and pathos."
