This beautiful recording of new works to mark Remembrance Day features the Portsmouth Grammar School Chamber Choir and the London Mozart Players. The title is taken from the poem ‘these children singing in stone’ by E.E. Cummings as used in Cries Like Silence by Lynne Plowman. The music throughout this CD is beautiful, often haunting and always imaginative, from Cecilia McDowall’s opening Ave Maris Stella to Sally Beamish’s The Lion and the Dear, the longest work on this recording (twenty-six minutes). Tarik O’Regan’s And There Was a Great Calm is no less captivating.
