The British Music Society is proud to announce the third release on its highly praised Historic label - a recital of English piano pieces played by the acclaimed pianist and composer John McCabe in performances first issued in the 1970s and re-issued on CD for the first time, in digitally remastered sound. The recording is released in celebration of John McCabe’s seventieth birthday on 21 April 2009. This album is now available as a download from us here at the Classical Shop.

                  CD of the Month
"...this immensely valuable and downright enjoyable CD of performances by John McCabe... A lovely record."

Musical Opinion - July/August 2009

"...a fitting testimonial to a truly great pianist."

Guy Rickards - Gramophone magazine - Featured Review

"A marvellous collection of relatively unfamiliar works by diverse composers, most of whom wrote little music for piano. McCabe is an outstanding advocate, effortlessly capturing the spirit of these assorted gems."

BBC Music Magazine

"...John McCabe’s intuitive yet thoughtful and persuasive pianism serves all the composers admirably, and his incisive and informative booklet notes round off a delightful release.

Richard Leigh Harris - International Piano magazine

"...piano playing of immense subtlety and in tegrity. The programme notes, by McCabe himself, are imbued with the same modesty and unassuming brilliance that marks the whole programme."

Nicholas Salwey - International Record Review
