Often referred to as one of the greatest of child prodigies, Mendelssohn in his maturity wrote two well-known piano trios that stand as peaks among his chamber music compositions.

This recording of deeply committed performances by the legendary Borodin Trio represents excellent value for money on the market.

‘Claiming many a success for Chandos, the redoubtable Borodin Trio, among the finest now heard on disc, apply themselves to the elegant, beautifully crafted Mendelssohn works – tuneful, light in character, satisfying…’
Which Compact Disc

‘…the Borodins have the field to themselves on CD… the three instruments merge in exceptionally ripe, full-bodied sonority… their sound-world is in fact almost Brahmsian. Always the players emphasise the romantic heart beneath Mendelssohn’s classical façade.’
Gramophone

“The Borodin Trio make the slow movements the emotional core of each work, not by becoming weighty or introspective but rather as a result of the warm-hearted sincerity of their playing.”  “…..Chando’s luxurious engineering pays special dividends, gently cushioning Mendelssohn’s magical lines so that the music feels as though it is being floated on air.”
“Highly recommended, especially to those in the past have tended to underrate these glorious scores..”

International Record Review - September 2009

“The Scherzos in particular have a magical lightness; recording is warmly supportive.”
