Parry: The Soul’s Ransom – Jones, Wilson-Johnson, LPO & Choir, Bamert

‘Set to a biblical text, The Soul’s Ransom, with its sequence of solos and choruses, forms a broadly symphonic four-movement structure with references back not only to Brahms and the nineteenth century but to much earlier composers, notably Schütz. This forty-five-minute piece is generously coupled with The Lotos-Eaters, a setting for soprano, chorus and orchestra of eight stanzas from Tennyson’s choric song of that name, with Della Jones again the characterful soloist. Full and atmospheric recording to match the incandescent performances.’
