*****
The third CD of three by Richard Hickox with the LSO, an orchestra peculiarly suited to playing Arnold, partly because they understand the idiom but primarily because they are an orchestra of virtuosi and the orchestration demands this. The quality of playing and recording are faultless but this is no sterile interpretation - the passion and patience with the idiosyncrasies of these two monumental symphonies is very powerful. The best Malcolm Arnold I have heard.
