 Toyohiko Satoh Soloist

Toyohiko Satoh, one of the most important lute players of the last century, plays the largely unknown late works of French baroque composer and lutenist Robert De Visée, guitar teacher to the King Luis XIV. Satoh plays on an original lute made by Laurentius Greiff in 1610, which gives this recording a very distinct sound and atmosphere.

"... Satoh’s musicianship, perfectd over decades is faultless and profound... A disc that will repay repeated and concentrated listening."   ****

Chris Goodwin - Early Music Today - September-November 2014

"... As one would expect, veteran baroque lutenist Toyohiko Satoh is a masterful exponent  of this music, and the instrument on which he performs has a beautifully deep, rich sound... Recommended both to lute music enthusiasts, and to those seeking an aural refuge from the turmoil of daily life."

James A Altena - Fanfare - September/October 2013

"...Toyohiko Satoh has been one of the world’s greatest baroque lutenists for decades. His playing is a delight - elegant, graceful, with a full and varied tone and a perfect grasp of style.... Mid-Baroque French lute music is perhaps an acquired taste, but if you do like it, it doesn’t get much better."

Kenneth Keaton - American Record Guide - September/October 2013

"... Toyohiko Satoh’s unhurries interpretation creates an overwhelming mood of tranquility, and his slickly executed  ornaments simply add grace and charm ..."

Andrew Benson-Wilson - Early Music Review - August 2013
