Many have yearningly awaited the continuation of this series! As already on the previous Vol. 3, Wallfisch has sought out another set of large-scope concertos in overture form. The distinguishing characteristic of these concerts en ouverture is that the violin comes into the foreground in the fast segment of the overture as well as in most of the ensuing movements, in order to concertize with the rest of the orchestra or to lead the second part of a dance soloistically.
"..these performances by Korstick, Francis and the NDR Radio Philharmonic strike me as ideal. CPO’s recordings, too, are very detailed and bright, with a lot of presence and impact, which are needed for Kabalevsky’s cinematic climaxes... Strongly recommended."
Jerry Dubins - Fanfare - January/February 2013
"...Warmly recommended across across the board."
Robert Maxham - Fanfare - November/December 2012
"... the disc can be thoroughly recommended: appealing music, performed with real expertise and understanding."
