 Gustave Kerker was a genuine great in the genre of popular theatre. Although largely forgotten today, he had a successful career in America, England and Germany.

 
Burning to Sing is a parody of grand, tragic opera, presented as a one-act drama. This is a highly amusing satiric piece with death arias, crude plots and a suitably melodramatic orchestral accompaniment.
 
In 1898 The Bell of New York was a celebrated triumph in London at the Shaftesbury Theatre. It enjoyed a remarkable 697 performances.

 "...The singers are a totally delightful lot - no great voices but all thoroughly engaged in the comic antics with all the rustle and bustle necessary. The orchestra not only has the rustle and bustle, but plenty of razzle and dazzle."
