French Romantic Flute Music inspired by Paul Taffanel – Kenneth Smith, Paul RhodesIn the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, Paul Taffanel was among the most influential figures in the world of flute music, as a performer and composer, but even more so as inspirer, commissioner, and supporter of fine works by a multitude of composers. This set contains many such works, most of which, having fallen out of fashion in the modernist twentieth century, have never been recorded until now – indeed many have lain unperformed for years. This is a great shame for the works are without exception exquisite and lovely, and beautifully performed. One or two well-known pieces are included, too. The artists have put an immense amount of dedication into this, their ‘magnum opus’. With each CD lasting over seventy-six minutes, this download represents superb value for money.
