This recording is subtitled ’Homage to Maria Curcio’. Curcio who died in 2009, was an immensely respected and revered piano teacher, with pupils including Martha Argerich, Myun-Whun Chung, Leon Fliesher, Peter Frankl, Radu Lupu and Mitsuko Uchida amongst others - and also Anthony Goldstone, who has created this tribute. The album includes many pieces which were associated with Curcio including the world premiere recording of four Waltzes by Curcio’s own teacher. Artur Schnabel. The disc also contains as a bonus a 1957 live recording of Maria Curcio playing the obbligato piano part in Mozart’s concert aria ’Ch’io mi scordi di te?’ with Elisabeth Schwarzkopf and the Concertbouw Orchestra conducted by Otto Klemperer.
"Maria Curcio was one of the most remarkable, passionate and musically intuitive piano mentors of the last century." "...Highly recommended."
