Previously issued to great sucess by Olympia, this album has been in great demand since it went out of print. The stunning playing is appropriate to the marvellous music: from Elgar’s beautiful ’Serenade’ in his own duet version, and most especially in ’The Planets’ which even without orchestral colour is so obviously a great masterpiece. This is not the later version arranged by Day and Lasker and recently recorded, but Holst’s original two-piano version, created (but not published) prior to the well known orchestral version.
