For Plamena Mangova, 2007 will remain a red letter year. After achieving second place at the prestigious Queen Elisabeth piano competition, her first album, recorded for Fuga Libera (Shostakovich, FUG517), was rewarded, among other distinctions, with the Diapason d’Or 2007. We are now presenting her second and much anticipated recital, devoted to Beethoven. The young Bulgarian musician had made a deep impression with her interpretation of Beethoven during the Concours Reine Elisabeth, showing total commitment and an exceptional range of colour. Revolving around the Appassionata Sonata, which Beethoven might have written for her, the programme includes an irresistibly charming rarity - the Variations on La Stessa, Stessissima - and his ultimate masterpiece: the Bagatelles op. 126.
