Two truly intimate orchestral works have been recorded by Collegium Musicum Basel on the Genuin classics label. Some might say orchestras and intimacy don’t go together. But with Mozart’s Clarinet Concerto and Schubert’s Fifth Symphony as interpreted by Collegium Musicum Basel under Principal Conductor Simon Gaudenz, they actually do. The Swiss musicians have given an exemplary performance which reveals the music’s poetic beauty, subliminal sadness and tender longing. And the full, spacious tone and polished elegance of Swedish clarinetist Karin Dornbusch contributes to the attractiveness of this album.
