Duo Staemmler Ensemble
In this, their first album with Genuin ( a co-production with the German Music Council), Duo Staemmler begin this new recording with electrifying and yet finely sensitive playing. Peter-Philipp (cello) and Hansjacob Stemmler (piano) not only demonstrate mastery of the early Romantic idiom—their performance of the haunted strains of Witold Lutoslawski’s Night Piece captivates the listener, as does their exhilarating rendition of Late Romantic repertoire. The early Richard Strauss work and the worthy discovery of Nikolai Miaskovsky’s volcanic piece round off a debut album which holds great promise of more to come from these young artists.
Repertoire ***** Sound **** Interpretation *****
"The duo deserves hearty congratulations for its versatile CD debut thanks to its remarkable tone, interpretation and choice of programming."
