Three world premiere recordings of high-quality 19th-century orchestral works: this alone will cause listeners to sit up and take notice. The fact that the Concertante for Violin and Cello, the Horn Concerto and the fully fledged Symphony were created by three members of one and the same family of musicians is surely almost unique and a cause for jubilation amongst experts. Music lovers will also be glad that the three compositions by Messieurs Schuncke are so thrillingly and flawlessly performed by the soloists of the Baden-Baden Philharmonic under their principal conductor Pavel Baleff that the musicians encounter these rarities with the same seriousness as with Wagner or Brahms. Repertoire value and interpretation of this GENUIN album: outstanding!

"...Violinist Yashusi Ideue and cellist David Pia give Hugo’s potboiler Concertante everything they’ve got. Hornist Robert Langbein ... plays Johann Christoph’s Concertino superbly, and the Baden-Baden Philharmonic plays with real conviction and polish under the able leadership of conductor Pavel Baleff. This is definately a worthwhile purchase to consider if you’re into exploring hitherto untapped romantic repertoire."

Jerry Dunnins - Fanfare - November/December 2013

"...Performances of all the pices are good, with a nice mix of vogor and refinement and lifelike recorded sound. Badoff’s interpretations are assured, bringing out the best in the music. Special praise must go to French horn soloist Robert Langbehn. This is horn playing of Dennis Brain magnitude. He handles the music’s most treacherous rapids with tonal control and always with beautiful tone... Langbehn’s knockout playing alone makes this album worthwhile."

Don O’Connor - American Record Guide - November/December 2013
