If the stylistic range in the first GENUIN album of the Ensemble Mixtura was wide, the two musicians Katharina Bäuml (shawn) and Margit Kern (accordion) are now sending us music bridging a still wider canyon in their new GENUIN release. In a breathtaking compilation, they connect the music of the forefather of Western music, Guillaume de Machaut, with compositions of our time. Just as old churches are reflected in the glass facades of modern buildings, we discover here, anew, the artistically skilful polyphony of the Middle Ages in the works of Sidney Corbett, Sarah Nemtsov and Samir Odeh-Tamimi. Time becomes sound - the two instruments, so different from each other, melt into exciting new colour combinations. Well worth listening to!

"...margit Kern is an accordian player ot just of astonishing skill but also repertory by commissioning new works. And the main importance of this release is the three works for accordian and - of all instruments-shawm, all composed last year ... composer Sidney Corbett uses the instruments in a straighforward manner, producing an orthodox but beautifully turned piece. The awesomely prolific young German composer Sarah Nemtsov goes to the edges ... with results that are thoroughly attractive and make one want to hear lots more of her music. Samir Odeh-Tamini ... stretches the bounderies in other ways, demanding extremes of virtuosity in a piece that in is in many ways immediately recognisable as Near Eastern ..."
