Bach did it and Schumann did it – and Mozart certainly did it... What did they do? Arrange, of course! Bridging time periods, embracing genres: from an oratorio to an organ piece, from a violin solo to an orchestral work with tympani and trumpets. The arrangements for oboe and piano collected by Satoki Aoyama and Kyoko Koyama on the new GENUIN CD are particularly striking: smaller and larger delicacies by Mozart and Schumann that make one want to hear more on the oboe, giving the lie to all the duck-tales about the nasal, stuffed-up oboe tone. One could almost be untrue to the originals and fall in love with these thrillingly played transcriptions...
