How could two works be more different from each other than the two quintets on the young Schubert-Quintett’s debut album with Genuin? Galant music from final years of the Rococo and one of the most important works in chamber music literature, the string quintets of Boccherini and Schubert. And yet they complement each other wonderfully. Our view of the piece bears reassessment upon hearing the performers treat both works with the same degree of seriousness, performing Schubert’s “divine lengths” with zest and pace, with never a moment of false sentimentality, just as they spiritedly play Boccherini’s Menuett—supposedly known to all concert audiences and perhaps always to be remembered as film music for the movie The Ladykillers. Entertainment and equal portions of confession, sentiment and spirit —on first listening to this album, it should be heard from beginning to end (and not just then) —then you experience a satisfying, indescribable glimpse into one of the most important secrets in music.

"The chosen tempi are all rather quick, the tone is always very clear and slender, with the articulation always razor sharp even down to the smallest details ... All in all, this praise is absolutely justified in unreservedly recommending the production."
