 The debut album by Sophia Jaffé on the Genuin label is more than just that. Her winning the German Music Competition is certainly one reason this release holds promise. However, Jaffé not only fulfills this promise in her four recordings of pieces by Suk, Bach, Ysaye and Beethoven, she also gives listeners far more—her highly sensitive and subtly shaded playing is compelling and a marvel to listen to. Together with her partner on the piano, Björn Lehmann, she presents herself with mutability and passion, delineating the finest details of the highly varied repertoire on this album and leading us to the profound depths of chamber music.
