The Golden Age of Light Music – Stereo into the Sixties
By the 1960s, most conductors and record companies had just about learned to forget about the ‘ping pong’ effects that the arrival of stereo had offered. Instead the new medium was employed to demonstrate that the extra sound channel would allow one to hear the more delicate nuances previously submerged in the wall of sound emerging from a single loudspeaker. Light orchestras certainly benefited from the opportunities that stereo offered, and there are many fine examples in this collection. With conductors such as Ron Goodwin, David Rose, Robert Farnon, Frank Cordell, Percy Faith, and Johnny Douglas on the podium, it is hardly surprising that this CD shines with quality throughout.
"...This new release from Guild Light Music is quite simply a stunning re-pristination of this ‘fab’ music. This is not to belittle the original ‘stereo’ tracks and vinyl LPs where all of these tunes have their origin. It is just great to hear these tracks digitally re-mastered and restored (by Alan Bunting)... Nothing more to say about this fantastic CD – except to Guild - ‘Just keep them on coming!’ John France - Musicweb-international.com - May 2012
