 Stephane Deneve Conductor

Stéphane Denèves recording of Poulenc’s "Les biches" and "Stabat Mater" marked the conductor’s debut with hänssler CLASSIC / SWRmusic. With this album, he begins recording a series of Maurice Ravel’s complete orchestral music. This first album includes Ravel’s finest orchestral pieces.

Denève has a special affinity for the music of his compatriot. Denève understands the precision of Ravel’s musical language and leads his ensemble flawlessly, while embracing the sonic magic of these colorful masterworks.

"... Deneve’s Ravel is romantic, searching, and full of interesting ideas... Bolero is very stylish. The solos are beautifully played... Deneve’s romantic Tombeau de Couperin is well done and convincing... This promises to be a fascinating series."

Roger Hecht - American Record Guide - March/April 2014

 "... Strongly recommended ..."

"...This fine disc celebrates not only Ravel’s mastery of lushness but also recognises those moments of fragility when you feel only his superlative technique defends him from dispair."

Roger Nichols - BBC Music magazine - March 2014

"... an excellent release, and I look forward to the next volume"

Colin Anderson - International Record Review - November 2013
