Britten: The Little Sweep; Cantata Academica

Two rarities in the Britten repertoire, his children’s opera The Little Sweep and the Cantata Academica, have been unavailable on disc for several years. These definitive recordings, made by Decca with the English Opera Group and the London Symphony Orchestra, are now available to download. The Little Sweep – one of the composer’s most charming and memorable scores – was recorded in mono, yet the sound is startlingly vivid and atmospheric, whilst the Cantata Academica appears in Decca’s characteristically full classic stereo sound.
