Boehmer: Autumn Afternoon – Jay Boehmer Jazz
The Canadian drummer, composer, and bandleader Jay Boehmer has been performing on the Toronto music scene since 1990. He graduated as a performance major from the Jazz Program of Humber College in Toronto, where he developed an interest in composition.
He composes at the piano with the spirit of a drummer, his music ranging from straight-ahead swing to off-beat rhythmic grooves. His compositions have been influenced by artists such as Miles Davis, Pat Metheny, and Oscar Peterson.
This second CD, entitled Autumn Afternoon, was released in 2007. The recording features Boehmer’s crisp drumming style and original compositions. Boehmer is accompanied by Michael Barber (piano), Henry Heillig (acoustic bass), and Kevin Barrett (guitar), as well as other Toronto musicians. Both this disc and the earlier Don’t Look Back are available online from the Canadian Music Centre and iTunes.
