Clarinet Concertos – James Campbell, LSO, Freeman
The clarinettist James Campbell presents a scintillating programme of some of the most enjoyable clarinet repertoire of the romantic era. The download includes Weber’s most attractive Clarinet Concerto, performed with the London Symphony Orchestra conducted by Paul Freeman, Weber’s delightful Grand Duo concertant, with pianist Leonard Hokanson, and Heinrich Baermann’s seldom performed Clarinet Quintet, Op. 23, with the Allegri String Quartet. Baermann was the most famous clarinettist of his day and most of Weber’s clarinet music was composed for this great musician, who was also a friend. The Quintet by Baermann is a fine example of his romantic imagination and operatic style.
