 Patrick Cohen Soloist

"For a long time, biographers recounting the last years of the life of Boccherini have striven to paint in darker colors: removal of cultural centers in Spain and Europe, withdrawn himself and end of all creative originality. Modern historians have singularly modifi ed image. The series of six quintets with piano-forte opus 56 by Boccherini was completed in fall 1797. Boccherini had worked hard to opus 56 he called "great work", that is to say, developed, and he hoped to profi t because he felt the fortepiano "very common in France and in the world whole. " He insists that the book "is published exactly as I wrote," and we follow the advice of violinist Rode, who had heard him in Madrid in the presence of the author, "to observe the movements in different tempi, expression etc.. ". Boccherini was specifically consider these quintets because he transcribed quintets for two violas and quintets with guitar, in his own words.
Anyway, the three works presented here are ambitious: in length, the complexity of their structure and variety of techniques - and thus expression - thus illustrating the diverse and attractive facets of talent Boccherin "
