"In spite of the evident influences of Wagner, Brahms and Richard Strauss the two works (the Mystic Trumpeter and Endymion’s Narrative) are written and orchestrated by a master and are the most beautiful to hear...JoAnn Falletta conducts with authority and strength...And her orchestra in Buffalo here sounds masterful with sumptuous strings and athletic brass - everything played American style."

Claude Gingras - La Presse - July 2002

"Here’s another gift from Naxos’s American Classics series, and I use the word "gift" almost literally, because this series goes from strength to strength, carefully recovering unjustly forgotten or neglected chunks of American musical history and offering them to listeners at near-giveaway prices. Can you imagine any of the "big" classical labels being this adventurous? Enough said. It is good to see the Buffalo Philharmonic making CDs (between blizzards, I suppose), as this American orchestra used to have a higher profile. I hope this is a harbinger of things to come. They relish Converse’s music and hold nothing back. Falletta, the orchestra’s music director, confirms her position as one of the most imaginative and dependable conductors at work today. The engineering is excellent, if "in your face" at times. Naxos’s usually exhaustive booklet note is a little less exhaustive here, but it supports the music and the listener who is coming to this music for the first time."

Raymond Tuttle - Fanfare - December 2002
