New music for brass band including Altitude, one of George Benjamin’s earliest works; Richard Rodney Bennett’s lament Flowers of the Forest; Judith Bingham’s dark tone poem Prague; Kenneth Hesketh’s dramatic Alchymist’s Journal; and variations on a theme from Tippett’s A Midsummer Marriage. Curated by Paul Hindmarsh (who commissioned some of the works), all are performed by Foden’s Richardson Band conducted by Bramwell Tovey.
‘It is difficult to put into words just how good this disc is… surely one of the finest brass band discs ever produced. Not only must it be one of the front runners for the CD of the Year, this reviewer can only imagine that a CD of the Decade award might be handed to it in two years time too!’
British Bandsman Magazine
‘The combination of Tovey and Foden’s is simply irresistible… [this CD] not only demands a place in the collections of all devotees of the brass band genre but would be also of great interest to musicians in the wider musical world.’
