Mahler: Symphony No. 7 in E minor – Gürzenich-Orchester of Cologne, Markus Stenz

‘Upon the first oar stroke, the theme of the introduction to the first movement occurred to me.’ Gustav Mahler made this statement when he was finally able to begin the composition of the Seventh Symphony after a long creative block (following the completion of the Sixth). The entire work was then completed in only four weeks at Lake Wörth in Carinthia.

"...The sound engineering ... is excellent, with a large soundstage and plenty of color... Stenz’s Seventh definately is a major statement of this work. I think it earns a place beside any recordings you happen to have . For insight and clarity it is hard to beat."

Dave Saemann - Fanfare - January/February 2014

"...This is a pretty impressive reading of the Seventh and it’s a very good addition to Stenz’s Mahler cycle."

"...With recorded sound that I found stunningly impressive from start to finish and good notes, this is a terrific disc. Anyone who is already familiar with Stenz’s Mahler cycle will surely love it - and collectors looking for a really captivating Mahler Seventh in the finest modern sound need look no further."
