 Joseph Kelemen Soloist

Joseph Kelemen at the Van Hagerbeer Organ (1643/90), Pieterskerk, Leiden (The Netherlands)

Sweelinck composed his keyboard music (as much as we know of it today) only after 1605, rather late in his career. The works that have been handed down to us have the effect of a summing-up, a written resume of his improvisatory and pedagogical activity. These works, about 60 in number, were widely distributed during his time and much appreciated by colleagues. Our recording presents a representative cross-section of his oeuvre for keyboard music played on the organ.

"... kelemen’s playing is fluent always displays a keen sense of phrase that gives purpose to the music’s forward motion. I would not hesitate to recommend this recording to anyone wishing to make a first aquaintence with Sweelinck’s organ music ... The disc will also delight connoisseurs of early organ music in general..."

William J Gatens - American Record Guide - July/August 2013

"...The pieces choosen give a good representative view of Sweelinck’s music ... a fine recording."

Andrew Benson-Wilson - Early Music Review - April 2013
