Sebastian Hess and Axel Wolf are two extremely versatile artists who now present wonderful rarities by Italian baroque composer Giovanni Benedetto Platti on their new album: 6 Sonatas for Violoncello and Basso continuo.
The works were probably written in 1725; at this time, Platti was already serving as an “oboista” in the court of the Würzburg Prince-Bishop Johann Philipp Franz von Schönborn. After the Prince-Bishop’s death, the court chapel dispersed, but Platti remained. The long list of over 60 works by Platti for Rudolf Franz Erwein von Schönborn in Wiesentheid begins with two volumes of twelve sonatas for violoncello, of which the first six are presented here.
