 Bernhard Buttmann Soloist

016 marks the centenary of the death of the composer, organist/painist Max Reger born in 1873 in the Upper Palatinate (Bavaria, Germany). to mark this occasion organist Berhard Buttman with play in co-operation with bavarian Radio until 2016 completing the organ works of Max Reger. Volume 1 of the complete works consists of four albums and these are primarily concerned with the early works of Max Reger. Amongst the pieces to be found on these albums are Three Pieces, Op 7, easily executable Five Preludes and Fugues, Op 56, for example, and the Twelve Pieces, Op 59.
The following organs are represented on Volume 1 of this set:
Album 1:The oxygen Oberlinger Walcker organ in the main Protestant church in Wiesbaden
Album 2: Maerz organ, St. Rupert, Munich and Max-Reger-Organ, St. Michael Weiden
Album 3: Max Reger Organ, St. Michael Weiden
Album 4: Steinmeyer organ, St. Blaise in Weiler im Allgäu & Maerz organ, St. Rupert, Munich

"...Berhhard Buttmann has been  the music director of St Sebald’s Church in Nuremberg since 2002. He is also much in demand as a recitalist and organ cnsultant. His playing hereis highly impressive, in that it flows well and shows a keen sense of formal purppose and tautness. So often organists tend to wallow in the dense textures and chromatic thickets of Reger’s writing, making it sound more overripe than it actually is. Let me confess that Reger is not my favorite composer, but htnaks to Buttmann’s coherent  and keenly directional playing, together with outstanding  instruments and exemplary recorded sound, I enjoyed these far more than I expected to... the series is off to a good start."
