"All sections of the Russian National Orchestra play with immense virtuosity and cope with their conductor’s demands with admirable aplomb and (the) technical team, headed by Rainer Maillard, has certainly produced a spectacular and glittering recording."

Excellent performance and recording. However the notes in the booklet give a skimpy account of the story being played out on stage. With a full length performance this is inexcusable. For example, Siegfried isn't just following the swans to the lake because he is in a huff about being told to marry suitably rather than for love. He is going off with his friends to hunt the swans because it is great sport and he loves it. The wonderful dance of the swans is their expression of gratitude for his preventing their slaughter, once he understood who they were and had sworn his love of Odette. Makes a big difference to know this. And what is the storm all about in Act IV? No explanation. This is not good enough for £20. The NAXOS recordings have much better notes.

Superb performances by Pletnev and the RNO. But buyers BEWARE: When you click "Add All" you are only adding one disc. For the second disc you must scroll down and add it separately. So the cost for FLAC is 9.99 per disc, not for the whole recording.
