Morgen! (Mackay) Op. 27 No. 4

In ‘Stimme der Sehnsucht’, a poem by Carl Busse, the voice of longing is depicted as a mysterious whispering sound, a dark and confused spirit from Thule, a mythical island in the far north, beyond the boundaries of the world. Christianne Stotijn’s recital confronts powerful emotions – longing, loving, unfathomable grief, and a forlorn desire to relive happier times. Night, with its dreams and restlessness, dominates the songs.

"...enticingly illustrated by Stotijn’s finely shaded voice, from the febrile Pfitzner settings to the lighter uplands of Strauss and a deeply affecting account of Mahler’s Kindertotenlieder." ****
