The Complete Organ Works of John Ireland are rare editions to the catalogue and those of Grayston Ives, unknown. The Nicholson organ at Harris Manchester College, receives its first commercial recording and is played by Myles Hartley
"All but three of the selections were written or arranged for organ by Ireland, Rowley and Gower. There is an unmistakable English flavour here right from the opening measures-not quite Elgar or Vaughan Williams, but clearly a warm sonority that favours melody over fancy counterpoint... The three pieces by Grayston Ives are perfect additions to this program, as they are suitably composed with a modern harmonic touch. Ives is a former member of the King’s Singers. Hartley plays all of this with a knowing sense of tempo and registration, and the organ is ideal for the task... Top marks!"
