Al was one of the most successful of all the great crooners of the 50s following in the Italian-American tradition of Perry Como, Frank Sinatra and Dean Martin. He holds the permanent distinction of having topped the first ever British pop chart. Here in my Heart was No.1 in the brand new NME chart of 14th November 1952. He went on to have a string of hits in the 50s, 60s and 70s and perhaps even greater fame as ‘Johnny Fontane’ in the film The Godfather. This disc presents 28 of his biggest hits in an uplifting programme of Al Martino in his heyday.
