Singer, songwriter, producer, presenter and entertainer Ronny Hilton was a ballad-singer playing to a slightly older audience, just as the more strident strains of rock ‘n’ roll were about to engulf all. His smart, well groomed appearance, smooth vocal delivery and polished stage routines made him a big name on the British pop scene. During the 1950s he notched up 16 hits in the British charts and via radio appearances, sell-out national tours and latterly TV he kept his place among the leading musical celebrities of his generation. In 1980 Ronnie bounced back as a presenter on BBC Radio 2’s acclaimed “Sounds of the Fifties series where his passion for music and a panoramic knowledge of the scene past and present stood him in good stead for an Indian summer as a radio presenter and disc jockey.
