The Division Flute – Emma Murphy (recorder) with David Miller (theorbo and baroque guitar), William Lyons (dulcian and recorder), Richard Campbell (gamba and baroque guitar), Steven Devine (harpsichord) and Emilia Benjamin (viola da gamba)

Described by its London music publisher as ‘Very Improving and Delightful to all lovers of that instrument’, the First Part of The Division Flute was originally issued in 1705 for baroque treble recorder.

Emma Murphy’s love of her instrument inspired her to record some of the best-known music for it, as well as some of the most neglected, from a collection that has never appeared on disc in its entirety. A fantastic CD with musicians at the forefront of early music today.
