As one of Britain’s most respected and versatile musicians, Sir Richard Rodney Bennett has produced over two hundred works for the concert hall, and fifty scores for film and television, as well as having been a writer and performer of jazz songs for over fifty years.

This album of compositions and arrangements performed by the BBC Singers showcases some of his most popular and beguiling works for choir and voice, drawn from classical and jazz music an featuring his ever-popular work A Good Night.

This new release on Signum with the BBC Singers follows two other composer-led discs: Remoter Worlds SIG 144 featuring the music of Judith Bingham, and Choral Images, featuring the music of Sir Michael Tippett.

"... it does contain some good works and the performances from the BBC Singers are of the very highest standard throughout, with robust singing, good intonation and enunciation and superb communication."

Em Marshall-Luck - MusicWeb- International.com - 26 August 2013

"... Bennett’s staunch and complex harmonies are not for sissies, which is why the BBC Singers are so formidable in bringing them off. The group is chamber-sized but sounds larger. The sopranos and altos are women who don’t mind sound female, so there’s some real oomph in the treble realm when it counts. ’Winter Nights’ in the Campion set for example, has some real sweep to it. But Bennett’s tender interludes are gracious and warm, while Cole, George and the Duke are brought off with all due elegance..."

Edward Greenfield - American Record Guide - March/April 2013

                           Performance  ****        Recording *****

"...all four of the carol settings which launch this Richard Rodney Bennet anthology were written in the past five years, and evince an easy mstery that makes them a delight to listen to. The part-writing is endlessly resourceful and inventive ... A cappella  arrangements of songs by Gershwin, Duke Ellington and Cole Porter serve as encores, allowing the BBC Singers to swing in slightly freer style together. Their high standards of execution, under Paul Brough’s empathetic direction, grace the entire programme."

Terry Blain - BBC Music magazine - March 2013

                    Star Review

"This recording of a highly attractive selection of Bennett’s recent a cappella choral works and arrangements is as accomplished as one could possible hope for ... With the Singers’ impecable intonation, warm vocal blend, this CD is a must-buy for anyone interested in contemporary British choral music..."  *****

Philip Reed - Choir & Organ magazine - September/October 2012
