SOMM’s close collaboration with the Coull Quartet has so far produced two successful discs of Mozart String Quartets (SOMMCD 040 & 049). This third disc highlights the wide range of music performed by the Quartet. The ending of Maw’s 3rd. Quartet, with its quiet, mysterious repose at the conclusion of the passacaglia movement shares an obvious affinity with the Third Quartet by Britten, a composer Maw admires greatly.

This recording has been made with the generous support of the University of Warwick.

"Here is a group, exceptionally intelligent and responsive, which gives freshness to any music it touches."
