Schafer: Twelve String Quartets – Molinari Quartet
The multi-award-winning Molinari Quartet returns with its third recording dedicated to the chamber music of R. Murray Schafer who in 2012 celebrated his eightieth birthday. The Quartet’s 2003 recording of Schafer’s Quartet No. 8, Theseus, and Beauty and the Beast garnered recognition from the Académie Charles Cros (France), an OPUS prize for Album of the Year, and a 2004 Juno Award which they shared with Schafer.
Internationally acclaimed since its founding in 1997, the Molinari Quartet has established a mandate to perform works from the twentieth and twenty-first centuries as well as to commission new works.
"...They [Molinari Quartet] sound fantastic, their devotion to this music is obvious, and the recorded sound couldn’t be more flattering to their artistry and the high purpose of this music. This is sure to be on my next Want List."
Robert Carl - Fanfare - January/February 2014
"... These are remarkably dramatic works... Though free in harmony, they feel basically tonal in intent and are full of varies emotions treated in satisfyingly thorough, large-scaled dimensions.... The Molinari plays with total involvement, and the recording is resonant and clear."
David W Moore - American Record Guide - September/October 2013
