Major, never-before released works in the output of this great 20th-century composer, the brainchild of Schnittke expert (and close personal friend) Alexander Ivashkin. Four of the five works on this recording are not only first recordings; they document Schnittke’s stylistic evolution over more than four decades of creative activity, moving from the relatively traditional Preludes, via the serial Dialogue and the experimental Yellow Sound to elliptical Variations, one of his last works, written in the face of physical adversity.
