David Glaser: Selected Chamber Works – New York New Music Ensemble
The intensity and focus of the music of David Glaser reflect the concentration of his life. He is a New Yorker through and through – raised in Queens, he has lived in Manhattan for the past twenty-five years. What characterises virtually all the music heard on this recording is its intentional direction towards concert performers in New York, their ensembles, and the culture and tradition that they embody and extend. His music calls visual metaphors to mind: the sparkling luminosity of its timbral textures reflects the focus of an intense conception, asking that an audience shut its eyes in order to see. Glaser is a graduate of Columbia University and the recipient of awards and commissions from the Fromm Foundation, the American Academy of Arts and Letters, Alice M. Ditson Fund, and the American Music Center.
"...The music of David Glaser has been an interesting and rewarding discovery for me. .. If your ears are tuned to the aesthetic of such diverse composers as Arnold Schoenberg, George Crumb, and Elliott Carter, I am confident that you will thoroughly enjoy the innovative and rewarding music on this CD. Performances are uniformly excellent, as is the very life-like recorded sound. Another winner from Albany."
