The bass-baritone Robert Holl is one of the great lieder singers of our time. He is also one of today's most sought-after opera singers, in demand by leading opera houses throughout the word. He is especially famous for his interpretations of the German repertoire and this outstanding recital from December 2004 shows the artist at his finest. The recital includes some of the greatest lieder of the romantic era, centring on the magnificent Liederkreis of Schumann. Also included are songs by Brahms, the Four Songs, Op. 32 by Pfitzner, as well as other items by Schumann, the whole forming a richly compelling sixty-three-minute recital. Roger Vignoles is the outstanding accompanist and the recording is a must for all lovers of Holl in particular, and of lieder in general.
