 Cesare Siepi Soloist
 Karl Bohm Conductor

Metropolitan Opera House, December 14, 1957.

A dream cast of half a century ago conducted by Böhn. The New Grove Dictionary praises his conducting as ", fresh, energetic, and authoritative, avoiding touches of romantic sentimentality or self-indulgent virtuoso mannerisms. His skillful balance and blend of sound, his feeling fro a stable tempo, and his sense of dramatic tension make Böhm one of the outstanding conductors of the century." These qualities are evident here, in a performance captured in excellent sound.
“...all-star-cast, notably Siepi”
BBC Music Magazine

“The singers leave little to be desired. Steber is an imperious and accurate Donna Anna with the technique needed in ‘Non mi dir’ and fully confirms her status as one of the great Mozart singers of the time….The surprise of the performance is Jan Peerce as Don Ottavio, singing with good vocal quality and the technique required by the runs in ‘Il mio tesoro’.”
