Previously unissued live performances from Boston, 1954-58; includes works by Debussy, Ravel, Faure and Milhaud never commercially recorded by Munch.

Sound restoration: Lani Spahr.

Comparisons between the public performances on this set and the RCA Victor recordings that sometimes followed them by only a day or two reveal that, unlike some conductors, Munch could be impulsive in performance, perceptibly, though not radically, changing his approach to a piece. Thus we have welcome alternative versions here to the studio recordings, in addition to getting Munch’s interpretations of works he never recorded commercially: Debussy’s Jeux, Ravel’s Introduction and Allegro for Harp, Flute, Clarinet and Strings, Milhaud’s Sixth Symphony, and Faure’s Requiem. Hi-fi sound, carefully restored from broadcast tapes.
